ANGKRINGAN
Angkringan is the Javanese name of a cart which sells many kinds of food and drink. It is usually located at pavement in Central Java and Yogyakarta. Angkringan cart which is covered by plastic can load about 8 buyers. Angkringan usually starts to operate in the evening. It uses traditional lighting called “senthir”.
The kinds of food which are sold in Angkringan are various; such as nasi kucing (small bundle of rice), gorengan (fried banana, fried tofu, etc.), baked shell satay, crispy chips, and so on. And the drinks are tea, coffee, milk, and ginger drink. Those are sold in low price.
Although the foods and drinks are cheap, Angkringan buyers come from various backgrounds; officer, university student, artist, even from executive class. The communication between seller and buyers seem very close.
